Fields & farmland searchNew

All 3,217,764 Land Registry titles, with the 1,123,262 of half a hectare and up checked for flood, designated sites, existing solar and grid capacity. Ask for the fields that suit a solar farm or a battery site, and get the list.

Ask for the land you need

One search across the whole State, instead of one viewer per dataset.

Any size

From half a hectare for battery storage to hundreds of hectares for utility-scale solar.

How much is built on it

Buildings on under 2.5% of the land: a farm with a shed stays in, a farmyard drops out. Or nothing built at all.

Clear of flood and designated sites

Fields that overlap a mapped flood extent or a Special Area of Conservation, Special Protection Area, NHA or proposed NHA are left out.

Not already solar

Fields that already hold a mapped solar farm, or a solar farm planning application inside the boundary, are hidden. Panels are not buildings, so without this a solar farm looks like an empty field.

Near spare grid capacity

Within 500 m to 5 km of a substation with the generation headroom you need.

Near a power line, and none across itNew

Within 250 m to 2 km of a 38 kV or 110 kV line, and leave out fields with an overhead line running across them. 9,413 fields of 10 ha or more sit within 500 m of a 110 kV line with no line across them.

Flat, or not facing northNew

Keep fields where at least 80% of the land slopes 5° or less, or simply leave out the ones where more than 20% faces north. Measured on every field.

Clear of heritageNew

Leave out fields holding a protected structure or a building on the national heritage survey.

Beside a solar farmNew

For a battery: fields within 250 m to 2 km of a solar farm, built or with planning permission, so the battery could share the farm’s grid connection. 2,063 fields of 0.5 to 2 ha sit within 500 m of one, clear and unbuilt.

What you see on each field

The whole field checkedNew

Flood, designated sites, protected structures, zoning and planning history are measured across the field’s boundary, not just where you clicked — so a flood zone just over the hedge shows up.

Why it matchedNew

Each filter you set, with the field’s own figure beside it — its size, how much is built on, its slope, the capacity it is near.

Spare capacity nearby

The best headroom within 500 m, 1 km, 2 km and 5 km of the field — to export, both ways for a battery, and to draw — and the nearest substations with spare capacity, by name and distance.

The lie of the landNew

The average slope, how much of the field is flat, how much faces north or south, and which way the field tilts.

Power linesNew

The nearest 38 kV and 110 kV lines, how far away and at what voltage, and any overhead line across the field.

Solar farms nearbyNew

The nearest built solar farm, its size and how far away, and any solar farm with planning permission that is closer, linked to its application.

Farmland prices for the regionNew

The CSO’s median price per acre for the region, for all farmland, grassland and arable, from 2024 sales.

Fields & farmland search: questions

How do I find land for a solar farm in Ireland?

Precedent searches every Land Registry title in the State. Set a size, how much of the field may be built on, and how close it must be to spare generation capacity; fields in flood extents or designated sites, and fields that already hold solar, are left out. On the current figures, 13,436 fields of 2 ha or more were within 2 km of 5 MW of headroom, clear and unbuilt.

How do I find a battery storage site next to a solar farm?

Run the battery search with “Near a solar farm” switched on. It finds fields within 250 m to 2 km of a solar farm that is built (64 mapped on OpenStreetMap) or has planning permission (458 granted since 2021). On the current figures, 2,063 fields of 0.5 to 2 ha were within 500 m of one, clear and unbuilt. Sharing the farm’s connection is for the farm’s owner and ESB Networks to agree.

Can I see agricultural land prices in Ireland?

Yes, as regional medians. The Central Statistics Office publishes the median price per acre of farmland sold in each of 8 regions every year, split into grassland and arable. Precedent shows the figure for the field’s region. There is no public price for an individual farm sale in Ireland.

Does it only show land that is for sale?

No. It searches every registered title, for sale or not. To approach an owner, take the coordinates from the field card to landdirect.ie and read the folio.
